Visite
La Pinacothèque de Brera, ouverte au publicen 1809, se trouve dans le palais du même nom qui abrite également d’autres institutions culturelles telles que la Biblioteca Nazionale Braidense, l’Observatoire Astronomique, le Jardin Botanique, l’Istituto Lombardo Accademia di Scienze e Lettere et l’Accademia di BelleArti.
Le palais se dresse sur un ancien couvent du XIVe siècle de l’ordre de Humiliés, successivement passéaux Jésuites qui y établirent une école.
Sa structure actuelle, remontant au XVIIe siècle, est due à Francesco Maria Richini, avec un apport de Giuseppe Piermarini dans le siècle suivant. Ses collections, constituées en grande partie de peintures anciennes provenant d’églises et de couvents démantelés essentiellement à l’époque napoléonienne, n’ont cessé de s’enrichir à travers des échanges, des dons et des acquisitions.
La Pinacothèque de Brera, qui durant ces dernières décennies a acquis deux importantes collections milanaises comprenant des chefs-d’œuvre absolus du XXe siècle, peut être considérée comme l’un des plus importants musées nationaux d’Italie.
