The gold ground was engraved, in contrast with the relief details of the haloes and the hems of the clothing. Rich materials and intense colours are among the distinguishing features of this panel, still archaic with two-dimensional composition, its silhouettes turning into arabesques and the generic nature of the faces. We do not know where it originally hung, and even the attribution has been questioned because the artist belonged to a family of painters who often worked as a team.
