A decorated portico opens out onto a sweeping landscape. The patron Antonio Busti, whose identity is confirmed by the inscription and monograms on the throne, is portrayed with the women of his family as St. James and St. Philip present the group to the Virgin and Christ Child. The altarpiece graced the chapel dedicated to the two saints in Santa Maria di Brera, a church partly altered under Napoleon to make room for this very picture gallery.
