For the third musical Thursday in June, Brera/Musica, under the artistic direction of Maestro Clive Britton, would like to bring this online concert to your home in collaboration with Le Dimore del Quartetto, a creative cultural enterprise that supports the careers of young international chamber music ensembles and enhances European cultural heritage.

Karski Quartet
The Karski Quartet is rapidly gaining recognition on the international music scene for its passionate interpretations of works ranging from Haydn to 21st century repertoire. The Karski Quartet was formed in Belgium in 2018 and performs in a wide range of venues throughout Europe.
The quartet’s founding members are violinists Kaja Nowak and Natalia Kotarba, violinist and violist Diede Verpoest and cellist Julia Kotarba. Having played with one another in many different combinations, the four met as a quartet during the 2018 Resonances Festival Academy. Soon after they were awarded the Grand Prix as well as the Special Prize for the alumni of the Royal Conservatory in Brussels at the 4th International Music Competition Triomphe de l’Art in Brussels.

Since the inception of the quartet their mentors have been David Waterman, Philippe Graffin and Amy Norrington. From January 2019 through March 2020 the Karskis were the resident ensemble in the String Quartet Studio programme at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester, working closely with Donald Grant (Elias Quartet), Petr Prause (Talich Quartet), Pavel Fischer (ex – Škampa Quartet) and Simon Rowland-Jones (ex – Chilingirian Quartet). At present Karski Quartet is Artist in Residence at the Queen Elisabeth Music Chapel in Waterloo/Brussels, studying with members of the Artemis Quartet and Miguel da Silva, while also continuing their studies at the RNCM under the umbrella of the European Chamber Music Academy within the new ECMAster study programme. The quartet has also been selected to join Le Dimore del Quartetto network.

Karski Quartet takes its name from Jan Karski, the legendary World War II resistance-movement figure. Commited as he was to showing others the dramatic truth about the war, the Karski Quartet members strongly believe that every era needs heroes like him. Amid the serious difficulties which the whole human population is facing now, they find Karski’s profound compassion and uncompromising attitude an example to be emulated in art as well as in life.

Le Dimore del Quartetto
Le Dimore del Quartetto (go to website to learn more +)is a creative cultural enterprise that supports young international string quartets and chamber music ensembles in launching their careers and enhances European cultural heritage, in a circular economy.

Born in 2015 from an idea of Francesca Moncada, Le Dimore del Quartetto develops from a simple exchange: on the eve of an artistic engagement, musicians are hosted free of charge in a mansion for up to a week and, in return, they offer a concert to the owners during their residency period. In this circular economy, the residences become a precious resource for the quartets and vice versa: opportunities to meet in unusual places and often decentralized territories are created, bringing back to life spaces that are not fully used and bringing a new audience to chamber music.

Today, Le Dimore del Quartetto, counts the participation of 91 chamber music ensembles (string quartets and trios, and with piano) with musicians from 41 different countries, 280 historical residences in 17 countries.
With a consolidated network in the field of music and cultural heritage, it deals with projects through the organization of festivals and travel itineraries, masterclasses, master classes and training courses for musicians, educational projects for associations, schools and universities, training and team-building activities for companies, residencies and concerts in historic houses and other places of cultural interest.
