These two panels are parts of a now dispersed polyptych painted by Bonifacio Bembo, a painter and illuminator awarded numerous prestigious commissions by the Sforza court whose ideals of courtly luxury he depicted. The pale, elegant saints outlined by a thin, soft silhouette are clad in complementary, jewel-like colours. The meticulous rendering of detail, from the clothing to the grass, still echoes the masterly naturalism of Gentile da Fabriano.
