Poultry of all kinds surrounds a woman who ceases plucking a turkey in order to watch a boy pulling a goose’s neck. If the Fruit Seller is an allusion to Earth, the poultry seller must allude to Air. As in the previous picture, this painting also replicates a series produced for Hans Fugger, now in Kirchheim Castle, highlighting the popularity of such works which combined realistic depiction with an allegorical or moral lesson.
