The picture comes from the collection of Cardinal Cesare Monti and entered Brera in 1896. It dates from the second decade of the 17th century and is regarded as one of the finest works by the artist, who drew on the elegance and tenderness of the Emilian culture in which he was trained and used them to develop a style that has all the tumultuous expressiveness of baroque language.
