Painted on the back of a Self-portrait in 1908, this second self-portrait of the artist may actually be the earlier work by a few years, judging from the style and the sitter’s youthful features. The painting was discovered behind the cross-piece of the stretcher, almost completely hidden beneath a layer of grey paint. It betrays much hesitation in the composition and was probably painted over by Boccioni himself because he was dissatisfied with the result.
