This painting is a reliquary triptych where in the round cavities above each compartment were evidently preserved holy relics related to the saints depicted below and no longer extant. The work is signed by the two artists, Bartolomeo and Jacopino da Reggio in Gothic letters under the crucifix, and clearly shows that the artistic culture in the territory between Reggio Emilia and Piacenza in the mid-14th century was very different from that of Florence in the same period.
