Eleventh Dialogue “Boccaccio Boccaccino. On the threshold of the modern manner in the Po Valley”
May 16, 2023 to September 3, 2023
An extraordinary dialogue, the first exhibition specifically dedicated to Boccaccio Boccaccino, one of the protagonists of early 16th-century painting in the Po Valley.
The artist’s fame is mainly linked to the frescoes of the Storie della Vergine e di Cristo cycle in Cremona Cathedral (1514-1518).
The painting from the Pinacoteca di Brera Madonna and Child will be on display along with three paintings that have never been seen together: the Madonna and Child and the Sacred Conversation with Saints John the Baptist and Catherine of Alexandria or Giustina from the Museo Correr in Venice and the prestigious loan of the Adorazione dei pastori from the Museo e Real Bosco di Capodimonte in Naples.

A destra, Madonna col bambino, Boccaccio Boccaccino, 1502 circa, olio su tavola. Venezia, Fondazione Musei Civici di Venezia, Museo Correr. Legato Teodoro Correr, 1830

The Dialogue focuses on the early period of the painter’s activity, that between the last years of the 15th century spent in Ferrara, in which the Adorazione dei pastori of the Capodimonte Museum falls, and 1506, the date in which he is documented for the last time in Venice, the city in which the other three works on display saw the light of day.
