Accessible for individuals with intellectual disabilities – To do in museum

Pinacoteca di Brera. Museo per tutti

Museo per tutti
A guidebook and dedicated tours for people with intellectual disabilities

The Museo per tutti project, conceived in 2015 by the association L’abilità in collaboration and with the support of Fondazione De Agostini, was created with the aim of improving the quality of life of people with intellectual disabilities by offering them a new space for meeting and exchange in society.

A project therefore perfectly consistent with the policy of inclusiveness developed in recent years by the Pinacoteca Brera.
Even before the pandemic and even more since the health emergency changed our lives, Brera has in fact translated the intentions of “accessibility” and “welcome” into concrete actions to support its public. These initiatives over the years have multiplied, encouraging the participation of families and children, but also paying special attention to people with special needs and valuing diversity (an example of this is the DescriVedendo project, aimed at the blind and visually impaired).
This commitment has taken the form of a specific program, Occorre tutta una città, which reaffirms the fundamental social role of culture, thinking of the museum as a reference point for an entire community. A design that is now enriched with an indispensable new perspective, one dedicated to people with intellectual disabilities: dedicated itineraries, specially trained educational teams and a guide created to guarantee a unique inclusive experience of the works of art in the Braidese collections. Occorre tutta una città finds in Museo per tutti a natural continuation, integrating it within its proposal and opening up to a new audience.
