Vulcan is forging metal with his wife Venus and one of his Cyclops helpers. Above, the winds that originate in his cave break free. This rare version of Vulcan’s Forge adorned the chimney breast of the main hall in the Pelucca decorated with Stories of Moses. Gerolamo Rabia commissioned the villa’s decoration for his marriage with Ippolita Pagnani; their arms may be seen on the lintel of the fireplace, which is still in the villa, with an inscription possibly composed by Gerolamo himself.
