Only a handful of paintings by Geminiano Benzoni, who worked in Ferrara at the turn of the 15th century, have survived, but he was very much appreciated during his own lifetime for such paintings as these, where the saint is depicted in a calm pose with a wealth of detail to make up for his relative lack of expression.
