Solimena’s two studies were kept in the church of San Giorgio in Venice and were chosen for the Pinacoteca by Pietro Edwards, the city’s Commissioner for Requisitions. The subject, another study for the decoration of the now destroyed Chapel of St. Carloman, is once again associated with the history of the abbey of Montecassino.
