The artist’s great-grandson bequeathed these studies to the Accademia di Belle Arti di Brera in 1837, along with a substantial workshop collection. The extensive collection comprises both rapid sketches and, as in this case, fuller studies – some of them produced while travelling to Rome and Naples – that reveal his working method. The work of Londonio, who belonged to the generation after Ceruti, offers a more dreamlike, Arcadian interpretation of the rural world.
