Donato has left few but nonetheless important works. A count from Pavia who worked in Liguria, we can see from this fragment that he very soon proved capable of merging Flemish meticulousness with moulding light and depicts the various materials with Renaissance innovation in terms of simplification and correct anatomy. The result is a style offering fine detail, charming colour, intensity of expression and a monumental presence which were extremely important for the next generation of artists.
