From Bach to Jazz
The evolution of classical music
before contemporary music.


The Pinacoteca di Brera, in collaboration with the Micheli Foundation, presentsa series of six evening musical events in the form of masterclass concerts, held by internationally renowned pianists (Gile Bae, Giuseppe Albanese, Roberto Giordano, Enrico Pace, Alessandro Taverna) who will illustrate the evolution of music from the 18th to the 20th century through live performances.

The concerts, which will take place from 9:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., will coincide with the special opening hours of the Pinacoteca until 11:30 p.m.

Gile Bae in concert with a program dedicated to J.S. Bach

A pianist of Dutch origin, Gile Bae made her debut at the age of five and is now one of the most refined performers of her generation. Trained at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague and the Piano Academy in Imola, she won numerous international awards before devoting herself exclusively to concert performances. She has performed in prestigious European concert halls and with major international orchestras, collaborating with artists such as András Schiff and Vladimir Ashkenazy. Her most recent recordings include Bach’s Goldberg Variations and piano concertos with the Archi di Santa Cecilia. A new recording dedicated to Chopin’s 24 Preludes is expected in 2025.

Recognized as one of the most accomplished pianists of his generation, Giuseppe Albanese made his debut for Deutsche Grammophon with the album Fantasia (2014), followed by several successful releases dedicated to Liszt, Bartók, Weber, Chopin, Ravel, and other great composers. He has performed in prestigious international venues, from New York to Berlin, Paris to St. Petersburg, collaborating with leading conductors and participating in world-renowned festivals. A prize winner in international competitions such as the Vendôme Prize and the Venice Prize, he also teaches piano at the Maderna-Lettimi Conservatory and is active as a lecturer in masterclasses and international juries.
