In the canvas, which Boccioni painted in 1908 in his studio in Via Adige in Milan, the artists explores for the first time the landscape of the Milanese periphery. He often depicted this motif in the time before his futuristic period as, for example, in the sketch of The City Rising.
The portrait was donated to Brera by Vico Baer, Boccioni’s friend and collector, in 1951.
