This young lady, once thought to be Isabella Appiani, the daughter of the prince of Piombino, is in fact more likely to be the painter Virginia Del Vezzo, or Vezzi, whom Vouet married in 1621. The portrait revisits and updates the canons of Venetian 16th century painting, looking to the work of Paolo Veronese for the softness of the figure and the sumptuous nature of her fabrics and lace.
