The customary image of the Madonna and Child acquires a new tenderness in this picture focusing on the affection between the two figures, portrayed in a richly colourful landscape bathed in light. The painting, by Niccolò Pisano who was born in Pisa but worked primarily in Ferrara, reveals the influence of some of the most interesting artists in the city at the turn of the 15th century such as Boccaccio Boccaccino, Il Garofalo and l’Ortolano.
