This panel is a predella, which runs along the bottom of a polittico and often, but not always, is devoted to specific narratives. Above there is an iconic image (in this case now at the National Gallery, London), a story appears below in the predella. It shows two episodes, the accident that causes the death of Napoleon Orsini who had fallen from his horse and was trampled, and then the miracle whereby St. Dominic returns the child – recognised by the red and blue robe – to his family.
