Pinacoteca di Brera Informazioni

Self-Portrait

Domenico Aspari

After training at the Accademia di Parma, Aspari was given the chair of figurative art in 1776, the year the Accademia di Brera was founded. He captured the essence of Milan in numerous painted or engraved views, recording the redevelopment of the city under the Habsburgs. This picture was in the “Cabinet of Painters’ Portraits” established by Giuseppe Bossi, secretary of the Accademia di Brera and author of the first catalogue of the adjacent Gallery (1806), soon to be inaugurated as the Pinacoteca (1809).
